Bulgaria is Hosting Major IARU Events

\n

\n

The Bulgarian Federation of Radio Amateurs (BFRA) is hosting again two major events of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU): the 8th IARU World High Speed Telegraphy Championship (HST) September 11-15 and the 17th IARU Region 1 Amateur Radio Direction Finding Championships (ARDF) September 16 -21, both in Obsor, a small but renown Bulgarian Sea resort on the Black Sea

\n

Shore half way between Varna and Burgas. Many factors make it a preferable destination for the summer vacation - ecologically pure region, 5-km long beach, active nightlife.

\n

\n

Special event stations LZ8HST and LZ17ARDF will be on the air on CW and SSB during the respective events. More than 550 competitors and guests from all continents including high-ranking IARU officials will attend the events.

\n

\n

Also, the first ‘Open CW Contest Party on the Beach’ will be held there.

\n

\n

Our DX Editor Dimiter, LZ1AF, is also present there and will provide detailed information and

\n

interviews with competitors and IARU officials for our next DX Programs.

The Glorioso Island DXpedition, FT5GA, Update

\n

\n

The FT5GA team is flying to St. Denis, Reunion Island September 11 and then will be flown to Glorioso Island by a French military aircraft. So, on-air activity might start September 12 or so. The stay on the island will be 3 weeks long. All nine team members are French military personnel and no civil participants are allowed. Four stations are planned, each running 800 watts including three Bulgarian-made ACOM 1010 amplifiers. Operation will be on CW, SSB and digital modes on all bands from 160 to 10 meters.

\n

\n

The operating procedure will be somewhat unusual. On some bands they will listen QSX up from the operating frequency and on others QSX down. Listen for their instructions or rather follow the pile ups!

\n

Glorioso Island ranks number 4 on the DXCC Most Wanted List worldwide and the pile ups are expected to be tremendous! Good luck to all!

DXpedition to Midway Island, KH4

\n

\n

A multi national team of 19 operators will activate Midway Island, KH4 in the Pacific in October 2009. Midway Island ranks number 24 worldwide and number 13 in Europe on the DX Magazine’s “Most Wanted List”. Activity will be on 6 meters through 160 meters with 5 to 6 stations. Major effort will be made to meet the demand to the most needed geographical areas, the low bands and RTTY. QSL route has not been announced yet. Stay tuned in for further information!

\n

\n

DXpedition to Easter Island, XR0Y

\n

\n

The XR0Y DXpedition to Easter Island will take place between October 31 and November 15, 2009. It will be a lightweight, small expedition undertaken by 6 operators: SQ8X, Stan (initiator of the expedition), SP7HOV, Zbig, both from Poland, SV2KBS, Victoria from Greece, NI1L, Leszek from the USA, CE6TBN, Marko from Chile and PA3C, Aart from Holland. Thanks to the fantastic support of Radio Club de Chile they will have the unique opportunity to activate Rapa Nui on 30 meters. Since that island is still most wanted on this band in Europe, 30 meters will be their priority. QSL information will be announced later.
