Bulgarian sportspersons receive awards for 2009

Bulgarian sportspersons received the 2009 sports achievement awards at a ceremony at the Vassil Levski national stadium in Sofia. Bulgarian world boxing champion of 54kg category Detelin Dalakliev and his manager Petar Lesov were awarded new cars by the Bulgarian Sports Ministry and the Bulgarian Sports Totalizator (BST). Mr Dalakliev grabbed the Sportsperson of the Year award and Mr Lesov became manager of the year.

Sports Minister Svilen Neykov and BST head Damyan Damyanov presented the awards to the most successful Bulgarian sportspersons. Minister Neykov himself received a prize for his work as a coach and donated the sum to three homes for children without parents. Athlete Vanya Stambolova and her manager Georgi Dimitrov, as well as gymnast Yordan Yovchev and his coach Milko Tankushev, also received prizes for their achievements. Awards were given to renowned sport shooter Maria Grozdeva and her manager Valeri Grigorov, short-track medallist Evgenia Radanova and manager Yulian Angelov, as well as rowers Rumiana Neikova and Miglena Markova. Bulgarian open water swimmer Petar Stoichev and his coach Krassimir Tumanov also grabbed awards together with wrestlers Stanka Zlateva, Ralitsa Ivanova, and Kiril Terziev.

Among the rewarded were the 21st Summer Deaflympics medallists Gergana Barumova (badminton) and Angel Kremov (wrestling). Sportspersons with disabilities, who took part in the World and European Championships in athletics, also received prizes.
“You are the pride of Bulgaria. These awards are an acknowledgement of your achievements”, said Sports Minister Svilen Neykov during the ceremony.

“I wish you many glorious victories in 2010”, BST head Damyan Damyanov added.
