Donation Campaign “Choose and Help”

A total of 35 projects with healthcare, social, cultural and ecological significance received funding thanks to a donation campaign entitled “Choose and Help”. The goal of this donation campaign, first of its kinds and organized by Raiffeisen Bank and the Internet portal dir.bg, is to provide funding for causes of high social significance. During the initiative that lasted for more than a month, each donator can choose a cause and support it. For the short time of its duration, a total of 184 000 euro was raised. More than 70% of the sum was for healthcare projects. The largest amount of money was raised for the Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Children With Onco-haematological Diseases (33 000 euro) and for the National Cardiology Hospital (32 000 euro).

“Human suffering always makes us weep with sadness”, Evgenia Adarska, Chairperson of the Association of Cancer Patients pointed out. Thanks to the campaign, the Association received more than 6 000 euro for a project on providing social aid to cancer patients:
“I would like to thank everyone who supported our initiatives”, Mrs. Adarska said. “The money we raise is a considerable support for a very serious European project. We want to use this project to extend the healthcare services for cancer patients and also to provide assistance outside hospitals. We are trying to prove that the teams treating cancer patients must involve a psychologist and a social worker. We dream of building a centre where cancer patients will be able to receive everything that the healthcare system does not provide for them.”

In the Social Projects category, funds were raised for the Asylum for Children without Parental Care “Sveti Nikolaj” based in the town of Novi Khan. The asylum was founded by priest Ivan Ivanov who managed to build it with the help of donations. Since its foundation at the end of the previous century until now, more than 250 people have found shelter, warm food and clothing in the centre, among them many children and lone mothers.

“Currently, we have 120 people in the asylum”, priest Ivan Ivanov says. The living conditions are much better than before thanks to those who help us. I want to express my gratitude to all donators. We are very happy that many people take part in such campaigns and have opened their hearts to people in need. In Bulgaria there are many people who need help. There are people who have nowhere to live and nothing to eat. Still, things are taking a turn for the better, my personal experience shows this. I hope that with the funds we raise we can further improve the conditions in the asylum. Besides, I hope to open a healthcare unit in the asylum in spring, where we will have dentists, general practitioners, and also three rooms for pre-hospital treatment of children.”

Financial support of 6 000 euro has been provided also to the Wildlife Rescue Centre of Green Balkans environmental organization in Stara Zagora. Funds have also been raised for restoring the medieval monastery church of St. Archangel Michael in the town of Trun, and for restoring the murals in St. Georgi Metoshki Church in the town of Assenovgrad.
