Bulgaria placed last but one (43rd) at the international PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) research entitled Assessment of Problem Solving Proficiency, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Education and Science announced. The test was held in April and May 2012 among 2,122 fifteen-year-old students from forty four countries. The Bulgarian students placed 43rd in this ranking, explained Minister of Education and Science Aneliya Klisarova, adding that these results were quite alarming. The Bulgarian students showed lowest results in problem solving assignments and scored slightly better results in mathematics, reading and science literacy. Only the Colombian students performed worse than the Bulgarian ones. Singapore, the Republic of Korea, Japan and China performed best.
