Minister Vigenin: the current situation makes South Stream indispensable

Photo: library

Commenting the four-partite meeting on the crisis in Ukraine, appointed today, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin said that the very fact of holding such a meeting is a clear and positive signal. He added that we are still not in a stage when economic sanctions against Russia are indispensable. It is not in the interest of any side to reach such a stage – neither the EU nor Russia, is the opinion of Minister Vigenin. In the context of the issue of the future supplies for Europe of Russian gas through Ukraine Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister pointed out that the current situation proves to even a greater extent the need of putting through the South Stream gas pipeline project. This international project envisages the transport of gas from Russia along the bottom of the Black Sea, to South and Central Europe by avoiding Ukraine. Meanwhile a representative of the South Stream – Bulgaria Company confirmed that work on the project continues.
