UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova holds meeting in Sofia

At a meeting held in Sofia, Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova and Bulgaria’s President Rossen Plevneliev united around the stand that the terrorist attack against the editorial office of Charlie Hebdo was a barbarian and inhuman act of violence against the freedom of speech and the values of the modern democratic society. At another meeting, Irina Bokova discussed with His Holiness Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte the possibilities for improving the cooperation between the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, UNESCO experts and Bulgaria’s institutions towards the preservation of the cultural heritage and the promotion of Christian cultural monuments such as churches, monasteries, books and non-material cultural heritage.
