Protest rallies, parades and blocking of railway stations in several cities and towns were held today against the decision for suspending of 38 trains, which came into force on Monday. The management of the Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) resorted to this measure, as well as to the impending layoffs, after the parliament slashed subsidies to railways this year by about 20 million euros. As of February 1 the BDZ was planning to stop the operation of another 90 trains. However, many passengers and employees of BDZ protest have gone out on protest against this decision. Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Committee on Transport decided that the Ministry of Finance should grant to BDZ the slashed 20 million euros, as the company would not stop any more trains and would resume the operation of the stopped 38 train routes.
