On March 9 we mark 30 years since the railway terrorist attack that took the largest number of lives in Bulgaria – that at Bunovo Railway Station along the Burgas-Sofia line. The terrorist act of 1985 involved a time bomb placed in the wagon for mothers with young children. The blast had to coincide with the passing of the train through a tunnel, with the aim to cause more victims. The train, however was two minutes late and blast exploded at the railway station. The explosion took 7 lives, those of several children included. The doers, according to the investigation, were members of a pro-Turkish terrorist organization, related to the protests against the so-called “revival process” in Bulgaria, aiming at the assimilation of the Muslim population in this country.
