The 33rd Golden Rose Bulgarian Feature Film Festival is taking place in Varna October 2 – 11, presenting 33 new feature and 17 short films. In 2015 we celebrate the centenary of Bulgarian filmmaking. To mark the occasion, the festival has lined up a host of retrospectives as well as sideline events. One of them is the exhibition “Authors and Posters” which opened at the Varna City Art Gallery. Another exposition presents hitherto unknown footage from the movie sets of some of the best loved Bulgarian films. The festival opens officially on 6 October in Hall No. 1 of the Festival Congress Centre with the screening of a documentary directed by Iliya Kostov “Vasil Gendov – myth and reality”. The film is dedicated to Vasil Gendov, a trailblazer in Bulgarian filmmaking who wrote the script, directed and starred in the first Bulgarian feature film – “Bulgaran is gallant”.
