Johannes Hahn: Southeast Europe should not become “parking lot” for refugees

The biggest challenge for the EU at the moment remains the migrant crisis, said EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn during the 10th meeting of cabinet and business in Sofia. He pointed out that Europe should show solidarity with the refugee issue but that it should not be allowed Southeast Europe to become a “parking lot” for migrants before they attain other destinations in Europe they have chosen. “We should all be clear that it is an all-European problem and we should all show solidarity”, Johannes Hahn further said. He further voiced conviction that Bulgaria can become leader in Southeast Europe “because if any country is capable of utilizing European funds at the rate Bulgaria does, it can cope with anything”. The EU Commissioner, however, criticized this country for corruption practices and drew attention to the fact that if we fail to cope with this problem, we would not be able to develop our economy.
