The Muslim community in Bulgaria is electing a grand mufti, as well as chairman and members of the Supreme Muslim Council at a national conference today.
The only nomination for grand mufti to date is that of Mustafa Hadzhi - current grand mufti. Vedat Ahmed, who currently holds the office of chairman of the Supreme Muslim Council, is the only nomination for Council chairman. Other candidates may come up before the start of the conference, said Ahmed Ahmedov, Chief Secretary of the Mufti’s office.
The national conference of the Muslim community is expected to be attended by 1,200 delegates.
