Women in Bulgaria are still paid less than men, receive smaller pensions, and remain unemployed more often and for longer. The share of poor women is higher than men. Data are from the report "Equality of men and women in Bulgaria in 2015", which will be adopted by the government. It states that the under-use of the skills of highly qualified women also generates a loss of potential economic growth.
Statistics show that women remain lower paid than men by an average of 13 per centThere is also a difference in the size of pensions. With an average pension of of 321 leva, men receive 385, and women 110 leva less. This is explained by the lower wages, fewer years in service and earlier retirement.
