After posting photos of himself with big-game hunting trophies from a safari in Africa, triggering a storm of outrage on social media, football legend Hristo Stoichkov made public his answer: “I, Hristo Stoichkov and my family have been involved in hundreds of environmental protection causes and charity campaigns connected with healthcare and protection of the population of Africa,” reads the open letter by Stoichkov addressed to the media. In his words, it should be known that game reserves in Africa are a source of income for the survival of the population. “Taking advantage of the hobby and interests of people like myself, they provide sustenance for thousands of families,” he writes and adds that only individual animals from entire herds can be shot and only with the permission of the accompanying guide from the respective game reserve in Africa.
