In Sofia, in one of the capital's galleries, an exhibition of three contemporary artists - Ivo Bistrichki, Alexander Valchev, and Slav Nedev has opened. They gather to show some of their recent works. BNR’s Sibila Lilova met one of them - Slav Nedev who told us more about the meeting between the artists and their common view of art.

"On January 6, we opened an exhibition named ‘Bistrichki, Valchev, Nedev.’ We chose this title because we do not consciously set ourselves a common theme or leading concept. We wanted an open exhibition where the interaction between us happens not in a literal or illustrative way. I believe that there is a connection between us and our works on a spiritual level, although the works are different. It is very important that people who work together have good communication between them and share freely their creative ideas. With Alex and Ivo we've done joint projects before. We have a tradition in this direction. We like to work together, we found some things in common and we think of doing other joint projects in the future. There will be one taking place in late March in Pleven. There we will be joined by sculptor Simeon Simeonov. We would like the circle of people who like new and innovative creativity to expand, as we believe that the visual culture and art can greatly enrich a person's life, and society as a whole. During the opening of the exhibition, our works were very well received by the audience. For us what happened in the Stubel Gallery was of great importance."

All three love to experiment, explore, provoked by the modern world and man in it. This is the link between them. In their paintings the viewer can see a peculiar section of the form whether it is an object of the urban landscape or a body. The artists unfold the image, dig in it, and use it as a template and text, as a background, changing the perspective, provoking tension and interest. Here's what the authors think of their work:

"I find beauty in simple things - those that others often overlook. I combine them, arrange them and rethink them. I create abstract compositions in which the starting material has lost its original practical function and has acquired new aesthetic function," Alexander Valchev says.

Ivo Bistrichki: "I focus on metaphysics of the body. Small organs of unknown function; mechanisms of connection, big hearts. Words, texts, punctuation and parts of news, features and semicircles. memories, nostalgia, black holes, pieces of happiness and a little love. "

“The post-urban visions series is ahead of its time in today's highly urbanized industrial society and presents a reality in which people are missing and pieces of their activities are left (primarily architecture). Shadow silhouettes, reminiscent of the bustling city life are seen. Nature gradually takes over the world of concrete and glass and life starts again,” Slav Nedev says.

The exhibition can be seen until February 25.
