Bulgarian Interior Minister Valentin Radev will inspect the organization of work at Kulata border checkpoint with Greece.

Day after the Union of Bulgarian Transport Workers and the National Association of Bulgarian Haulers announced that they begin protests on Monday over kilometers long queues at the checkpoint, Radev will go there for firsthand information. In the meantime transport companies and workers have warned that unless effective dialogue with the authorities starts, they are prepared to block the road leading to the border.

The Customs Agency and the Union of International Carriers have also agreed on a day-to-day operational exchange of information for timely elimination of problems impeding traffic at border crossing points. However, control will not be eased, as the fight against smuggling and the gray sector remains a priority for the customs and the Interior Ministry.

So far, a major problem is the reconstruction of the Greek crossing of Promahonas, and only after its completion, further measures could be taken to facilitate traffic, the Customs Agency commented.
