Prime Minister Boyko Borissov has discussed with the ministers of interior, of transport, of regional development and of health the war on the country’s wars and measures to cut road accidents. The extraordinary meeting at the Council of Ministers in Sofia was joined by the Interior Ministry chief secretary, police officers and officials from Road Infrastructure Agency. Opening the meeting PM Borissov said:

“We cannot possibly address demographic problems while every day we see two, three or even more fatalities in road accidents. So, our first topic is about road accidents. I would like to know what we can do with the regional ministry: crash barriers, circulars, sleeping policemen, changes in the infrastructures, legislative changes, the needed money for video cameras and control.”

Amendments to the regulations for the use of narcotic drugs, dividing the Road Traffic Act and the introduction of the toll system in road traffic are part of the measures mapped out by Boyko Borissov.

At the extraordinary meeting at the Council of Ministers, some ministers also discussed food quality issues. The premier specified:

“This is unacceptable, insulting and, in my opinion, even something that has remained since the era of apartheid – the situation in which food in Europe has certain quality in the West and different, namely worse quality for the markets in Eastern Europe. Ask any doctor and they will tell you that the greatest health hazards relate to what we eat and drink.”

After the talks Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Rumen Porozhanov announced that the Ministry was analyzing the quality of five groups of food brands – chocolate, meat and dairy products, sodas, juices and baby foods.
