Bulgarian Orthodox church honours St. Marina

The Bulgarian Orthodox church honours the memory of St. Marina the Great Martyr today, who was condemned to death because of her belief in Jesus Christ.

According to popular belief, she is the symbol of celestial fire, patron saint of the harvest and cornfields, of health and of the Southern portion of the Bulgarian Black Sea coastline as well as of the town of Sozopol which celebrates its patron saint’s day on 17 July.
