A Bulgarian national has died at Khan Tengri Mountain in the Tian Shan Range on the border of China, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, the bTV channel reports. The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has confirmed the news.

Today the identity of the victim has been established: Ivan Todorov, an engineer employed by the Bulgarian National Television.

The incident took place on 8 August about 00:20 h. While descending the peak Todorov collapsed at 6200 m, then fell through 600 m on rocks and died on the spot. Rescuers who arrived to the scene of the fall have reported that the death has resulted from traumas caused by the fall.

The expedition that the Bulgarian national was part of was not Bulgarian. Khan Tengri Mountain is 6995 m high but adding to this its snow-capped peak its height comes to 7010 m. For the first time Bulgarians climbed the peak in the summer of 1989. Since then, 38 Bulgarians have conquered it.
