The Bulgaria national football team climbed fourteen positions and placed 38th in the FIFA world ranking, outstripping teams such as Paraguay, Japan and Romania. This is Bulgaria’s best ranking since 2010 and is due to the 3:2 victory against Sweden on August 31 when the national football team defeated the Scandinavians for the first time in 50 years. The world champion Germany climbed to the 1st position in the rankings, followed by Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Belgium, Poland, Switzerland, France, Chile and Colombia.
