In order to strengthen security during Bulgaria’s Presidency of the European Council, some 3500 surveillance cameras will be operating in Sofia. 300 new cameras will be placed along Tsarigradsko Shosse Boulevard and the route from the airport through the National Palace of Culture downtown Sofia to Boyana. This was what Sofia mayor Yordanka Fandakova announced. Fandakova together with Interior Minister Valentin Radev have presented the unified Sofia security system. 50 cameras more will be installed in the subway. Thus, in the capital from January 1 there will be nearly 3500 cameras operating. Modern video surveillance may partially analyze traffic violations in the capital, but in order to detect all speeding drivers, the system will need to be upgraded, it was reported.
