Bulgaria climbs several notches in best country ranking

Bulgaria is 56th in the US News & World Report best country ranking, climbing several notches, compared to 2017, when it was in 63rd position.

Bulgaria is described as a country whose economy is powered by construction, mining, services – which include tourism – and agriculture sectors. “Bulgaria has a well-educated workforce, but it is considered the poorest nation in the European Union. Among the challenges it faces are perceived problems of corruption and organized crime,” the magazine writes.

Out of the Balkan countries, several occupy higher positions: Greece (28th place), Turkey (36th), Croatia (50th), Slovenia (53rd) and Romania (54th).
