Film critic Bojidar Manov is among the most acclaimed professionals when discussing cinema is concerned. „As early as my childhood, I watched a few absolute and eternal masterpieces of world cinema which have remained in my mind as paragonsand have emerged as a sustainable criterion for good film-making. They remain my benchmarks that I refer to even today when watching new movies – Chaplin’s The Gold Rush, La Grande Illusion by Jean Renoir, Bicycle Thieves by Vittorio de Sica“, the film critic says. At the beginning of March Prof. Manov will present two films in the special program of the House of Cinema and Art Fest – “European cinema for students”. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Prague Spring in 1968. So the two films have not been chosen accidentally. One of them is the emblematic picture of Metodi Andonov The White Room starring the legend of Bulgarian cinema Apostol Karamitev, and the second one isMemories of Fear by film director Ivan Pavlov. They offer a different glance to events in 1968 and to the struggle for the freedom of spirit and creative thinking. The topic of 1968 will be one of the highlights during the 22nd Sofia International Film Festival. The film critic will receive the special lifetime achievement award of the film festival.
