Days of Bulgarian cuisine are taking place in Brussels within the frame of the cultural programme of Bulgaria’s Presidency of the Council of the EU. Four times during this six-month period – on February 22, March 1, May 24 and June 7, employees and visitors to European Union institutions in Brussels will have the opportunity to taste traditional Bulgarian white-bean soup, Shopska salad, Banitsa (cheese pastry), Kavarma (spicy meat and onion stew), Patatnik (potato and rice oven-baked dish) and other Bulgarian tasty specialties. Vice-president Iliana Yotova handed Bulgarian identity papers to Stefan Balichevats. The Serbian national received Bulgarian citizenship for special merits. He took active part during the rescue action immediately after the tragic car accident in the Lim River in April 2004. There, near the Montenegro town of Bijelo Polje and the Serb town of Prijepolje, 12 Bulgarian children died on their way back from an excursion to Dubrovnik. The only one in Bulgaria and the sixth in the world Museum of Vodka opened in Kavarna, on the Black Sea coast. It displays a private exposition, the collection belonging to Russian citizen Igor Raskevich. Up to date the exposition displays 729 bottles of Vodka from all over the world. Visitors can see the oldest Russian Vodka, the most expensive vodka in the world, vodka from the time of Napoleon. There are bottles decorated with Swarovski crystals and precious stones, bottles made of glass, china, metal, even from rhino leather. Photo: BTA

The city of Stara Zagora boasts of 11 medal holders from the finals of the International Mathematics Olympiad. The competition took place on February 21 in Bangkok, Thailand. There were 1 500 participants from 12 countries. Bulgaria was represented by 48 students from 13 places across this country. The young Bulgarian mathematicians are aged 6-18.
