In an interview for Sunday 150 program of the Bulgarian National Radio, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva said that following the strikes of USA, UK and France on Syria, there was no hint of an increase in migration flow. The minister pointed out that Bulgaria had had preliminary information about strikes on Syria from its partners.

In connection with the attack, at an extraordinary meeting on Saturday, the Bulgarian government released a special declaration.

The declaration reads that the targets of missile strikes on facilities linked to the manufacturing of chemical weapons have been selected carefully so as to avoid victims.

The cabinet views the one-off military operation as a warning for ending such illegal actions of the Syrian regime in the future, but it is concerned over a possible escalation of the conflict and calls on the Syrian regime to give up any actions violating international humanitarian law.

It is necessary to take de-escalation measures, as well as to provide full and unhindered humanitarian access to the victims of the chemical attack in the Syrian town of Douma.

Bulgaria expresses its support for the work of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, expects full cooperation for the activity of the organization’s investigative teams and hopes that the culprits for the chemical attack in Douma will be identified and will bear the respective responsibility, the declaration of the Bulgarian government reads.
