State policy for Bulgarian villages needed urgently: Vice President Iliana Iotova

"The state must act to help Bulgarian villages not only to survive but develop too, so that young people remain here”, Bulgarian Vice President Iliana Iotova has said while on a visit to the village Professor Ishirkovo, Silistra region, northeastern Bulgaria. The village hosted a special ceremony on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of the founder of the science of geography in Bulgaria Academician Anastas Ishirkov and the 75th anniversary since the village adopted his name. Professor Ishirkovois 18 km from the regional center Silistra. Two cooperative farms operate in the village growing wheat, corn, sunflower, barley and other crops. The fans of Bulgarian folk music associate the village with the folklore festival Ishirkovo Sings and Dances which is held every year in early autumn to celebrate Dobrudzha folklore.
