Dozens of museums and galleries in the country take part in the European Night of Museums with interesting exhibitions, concerts and various art events that can be visited for free. Traditionally, museums open door in the evening of the first Saturday after the European Museum Day (May 18th). This is an initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Communication of France. In Bulgaria it was organized for the first time in 2005 in Plovdiv. The National Museum of History is participating in this year's Museum Night with a program starting 9.30 am until midnight, as entrance after 18.00 will be free. This year’s event is particularly ambitious because it coincides with the 45th anniversary of the museum. The program includes several different exhibitions, activities for children, a concert and a special exhibition focusing on the creation and development of the museum as a keeper of Bulgarian historical heritage.
