The Bulgarian Christians honor today Saints Constantine and Helen equal to the apostles commemorating Emperor Constantine and his mother Helen.

In 313, Constantine published the Edict of Milan, introducing Christianity as an official religion in Byzantium. Queen Helen went on a pilgrimage to the places where Christ lived, built several monasteries and found the cross on which Jesus had been crucified.

These memorable events are considered to great importance in the history of the Christian Church, so the Emperor and his mother have been canonized as saints.
