Four unique icons from the ancient Bulgarian town of Nessebar were exposed in Moscow’s Tretyakovska Gallery. Two of the icons - of St. Demetrius were painted in the 16th and 17th c. The third one is of St. Polyeuctus from the 15th c. and the 4th – of Martyr Galina from 1809. The exhibits are part of the prestigious Masterpieces of Bulgarian Church Art exposition and will be displayed till the first days of September. Russian experts underline in their exposes on the Bulgarian event that the Byzantine culture is the ground for most Orthodox traditions, but despite this strong influence the Bulgarian icons have their own style and testify on the authenticity of the local art schools.
