Today NATO has invited the Republic of Macedonia to open talks for accession to the Alliance.

The news has come from the organization’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference following the first meeting in the two-day NATO summit in Brussels, BTA reports.

Jens Stoltenberg has specified that Macedonia will become the 30th country in the Alliance after procedures for the agreement between Skopje and Athens have been completed. This suggests that NATO doors remain open, according to Stoltenberg. Without a change in its name there is no way for that country to enter the Alliance, its secretary general has explained.
