55-year-old Ivan Dimov has been preparing to sail 28,000 nautical miles in a 6-meter boat, the smallest one to ever sail around the world. By doing so, he will try to enter the Guinness Book of Records. Ivan Dimov is from Sofia but has long been working abroad. He stopped work to fulfill his childhood dream of an overseas journey. When he was just 7 years old he went alone in sea with a boat. He took a piece of bread, some cheese, two bottles of water, and started the adventure. Back then he could not sail and his boat got carried away by the wind. He spent three days in the sea before he was rescued, but the dream of a journey around the world remained alive. Now Ivan’s boat is equipped with appliances and essential necessities. It will sail under the Bulgarian flag for nine months without touching land. The Bulgarian feels ready for the journey. He has crossed the Atlantic Ocean seven times, and once crossed the Indian Ocean. The new voyage starts at the Spanish port of La Coruña. The ancient Romans used to say this was the end of the world, as there was no near land to be seen from there.
