The Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association of the National Union of Agricultural Cooperatives have introduced amendments to the Food Law to parliament. They suggest the launch of a public register of certificates that accompany foodstuffs, the introduction of the requirement for mandatory documentation for products, as well as ongoing control exerted by the Food Safety Agency.

Apart from tight controls, sanctions up to 10 percent of a company’s turnover are envisaged in cases of violations.

The European Commission has identified double standards in food as an unfair trade practice which should be liable to sanctions imposed by local administrations, the business organizations recalled.
