The 6th edition of the “Sofia Biting Docs” documentary film festival, taking place under the motto “Soul Mate”, features two new Bulgarian documentaries: “Camino de Santiago: А Spiritual Journey” and “The Garden of Theotokos”.
“Camino de Santiago: А Spiritual Journey” was the film which opened the festival at the Cinema House in Sofia on 1 October. The independent film traces the world-known pilgrims’ route that hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world walk every year and get touched by its magic. A film that is inspiring, emotional, at times funny, but which also carries some deep spiritual truths and a message to humanity.
The other Bulgarian documentary which is having its premiere at the festival is “The Garden of Theotokos”. The film offers a glimpse into the life of the oldest surviving monastic community, a place where no woman has set foot in over 1,000 years – the inaccessible Mount Athos in Greece. The monks go about their daily duties - they cook, clean, chop wood, paint icons. While they reflect on the miracles that happen every day they tell the story of an icon of the Assumption that came to the monastery in a mysterious way 30 years ago.
The festival, which presents a selection of documentary films, going into topics such as human rights, environmental problems, discrimination, disrespect for diversities, integration of minority groups, is on until 10 October.
