Sofia – part of initiative European Cinema Night

Bulgaria’s capital Sofia will mark the European Cinema Night with the screening of Square movie, director Ruben Östlund (who won the 2017 Palme d’Or award in Cannes Film Festival). This is a new initiative of Creative Europe-MEDIA which covers 27 countries and offers free access to large cinema halls which screen the best contemporary European films. The cinema halls across Europe are expected to attract over 7,000 fans of European cinema within the frameworks of the European Cinema Night. Thirty four renovated cinema halls of the pan European network European Cinemas will host the screenings between December 3 and 7. Thus, 34 cinema halls in Europe will screen 20 films which received the support of the MEDIA programme and were selected by the local cinema broadcasters. European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel will open the European Cinema Night in Sofia on December 7 at the Cinema House (Dom Na Kinoto). The audience will have the opportunity to enjoy the coproduction The Square (France-Germany-Sweden-Denmark) which casts ironical glance at concepts like European art, tolerance, political correctness, donor organizations, etc.
