New project by Angel Zaberski Jr. - Symphony-Jazz

One of Bulgaria’s top jazz pianists and composers Angel Zaberski Jr. will be presenting his new project, entitled “Symphony–Jazz” on 20 December in Hall No. 1 of the National Palace of Culture in Sofia. He will be sharing the stage with Mihail Yossifov, Velislav Stoyanov, Martin Tashev, Stoyan Yankoulov-Stundzhi etc.

“I invited, as guest performer, world beatbox champion Alexander Deyanov-SkilleR,” the composer says. “He will be doing solos, but we shall also be seeing him in a new light – in the role of percussionist, but of a very specific kind – a vocal percussionist. I shall also be presenting a young kaval-player of incredible talent – Zhivko Vasilev. Even though he plays folk music, he is an amazing jazz improviser. Mihail Yosifov is soloist of the entire programme, in fact I wrote the music specifically for him. I am very happy to be in the company of such musicians. I think that the music I wrote is aesthetically pleasing to the ear.”

Jazz and classical music lovers will remember Angel Zaberski’s hugely successful project “4 Pianists 4 Royal Pianos”, in which he partnered up with another incredibly talented Bulgarian jazz pianist - Jivko Petrov. That was a project that combined two genres in a very original way. “Symphony–Jazz” is much in the same vein. On 20 December audiences will be able to hear new works, as well as arrangements, by the pianist, of familiar classical and jazz compositions. Some were written especially for the concert and will be performed for the first time. Besides the names already mentioned, there will also be a string and a brass section. Conductor of the concert is Grigor Palikarov. Angel Zaberski Jr. has the ambition to present his project in other towns of Bulgaria as well.
