The Bulgarian employers, labor unions and government held a trilateral meeting on Tuesday. They failed to reach an agreement on the cost of night labor in this country. In the beginning of 2019 a working group is expected to discuss and propose legislative amendments. It also became clear that higher pay for night labor for the people employed at the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior, defense and healthcare fields was not calculated in the 2019 state budget. Currently the remuneration for night labor amounts to 25 Eurocents per two hours worked. The Bulgarian employers pointed out that a higher pay for night labor was negotiated in 38 sectors. The parties failed to reach an agreement on another topic related to the minimum monthly salary in this country. The government is planning to increase minimum salary from EUR 261 to EUR 286 on January 1, 2019. The Bulgarian employers estimated that the average monthly salary will get closer to the minimum monthly salary after the implementation of this measure and noted that wages must be based on the employees’ skills, qualification and competence.
