The Constituent Assembly was convened to ratify the country’s first constitution, known as the Tarnovo Constitution. 226 MPs adopted the Tarnovo Constitution on April 16, 1879. The document endorses the democratic values of the Bulgarian people and became the fundamental law in this country. According to historians, the Tranovo Constitution is among the most-democratic constitutions of its time.
