“Between Procabba and Golgotha” – this is the title Boris Gondov (born 1935) has given to his exhibition of works, created in 2018, which is on display at Contrast gallery in Sofia.

“A master of the aesthetic sculpted image, whatever the chosen material or theme, Boris Gondov is spell-binding in his temperate expression,” says art critic Prof. Aksinia Djurova, describing the exhibition, in which “one of the best sculptors of his generation seems to close the circle of his quests. The works on display in this exposition reveal one of the most alluring aspects of his art – that the figures are always in flight, even the falling angel is seen in flight.”

The exposition features 20 elegant sculptures made of wood and bronze, and 30 drawings. The two sculptures which are the “pillars” of the exhibition stand at the entrance of the gallery – the Saviour and Procabba and Golgotha.

“With these sculptures I want to show that the adult life of humans starts with the awareness of their divine origin and their divine end. That is what the exhibition is about – showing life locked between these two stages, the beginning and the end,”  Boris Gondov explains and adds that we must all make our mark to prove our life has not been in vain.
