Bulgaria’s authorities undertake measures related to citizenship by investment scheme

The State Agency for National Security and the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior checked nearly 40,000 people who received Bulgarian citizenship between 2013 and 2018. The inspection has ascertained that some of the people who received Bulgarian citizenship under the cash for passport scheme failed to make the necessary investments in this country as required. That is why, the Bulgarian authorities will undertake the relevant legal actions against these persons and their citizenship will be cancelled, the Chairman of the State Agency for National Security Dimitar Georgiev and Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Interior Krasimir Tsipov announced. Very small number of foreign nationals will be affected by the forthcoming actions, Dimitar Georgiev and Krasimir Tsipov specified.
