The Sand Sculpture Festival is held for the 12th time in Burgas. This year, only Bulgarian participants take part in it and the motto is "Favorite Children's Characters." This is a festival focusing on detail, sand sculptors say. Ognyan Petkov, one of the doyennes of the forum in Burgas, says he accepts the idea of the festival because he likes all children’s characters "I want every child to see Pippi Longstocking inside themselves and to provoke them to read the book," Ognyan said. 400 tons of sand more in comparison to last year had been delivered, as preparation for the festival took 6 months. It took sculptors 15 days to finish their work in the heat and visitors would be able to enjoy the sand sculptures for about three months, organizers say and add they could only dream of these fabulous sculptures remaining intact and the space around them growing every summer.
