Amendments to Bulgarian Identity Documents Act approved

As of 2021 Bulgarian passports will be valid for 10 years, for minors aged under 18 – 5 years.

As of 1 October, 2020, applications for substituting Bulgarian identity documents can take place via the e-service system of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Assembly has decided. This service will be made available without eSignature but by attaching a copy of the valid document which is to be substituted. The document shall be received in person, after identification and the return of the document in question. The deadline for issuing Bulgarian identity documents by consular or diplomatic services abroad is 45 days, accelerated issuance service will be 30 days.

Bulgarian identity documents can be received outside the country personally by a licenced postal or courier service.
