One of the biggest folklore festivals near Rozhen peak (The Rhodopes) again gathers fans of folklore from Bulgaria and abroad. Traditionally Rhozen is a festival of folklore and stockbreeding, as stockbreeding is the main livelihood in the region of the Rhodopes Range. The festival programme includes national folklore competition for folk singers, instrumentalists, folk dances, customs and verbal folklore. Traditions come alive in dance competitions, evening concerts and fire-dancing shows where men and women dance over live coals. Stockbreeders launch exhibitions of various breeds of sheep, goats, dogs and other domestic animals. They also present dairy and meat foods and traditional meals.
