The 14th edition of the National Folklore Fair “Theotokos Footstep” starts in the resort of Stara Zagora Mineral Baths. It bears the name of an area that is considered a sacred place. According to legends, the Virgin Mary came down there to rescue a persecuted Christian and her footstep is seen as a stone niche in a rock that never dries out. Many people come to this place hoping to receive healing and divine help. The purpose of the festival is to preserve folklore and customs in the Thracian region and throughout Bulgaria. The competition program includes singing, instrumental and dance ensembles, as well as groups presenting folk customs and traditions. Visitors would also see performances dedicated to Bulgarian lifestyle and traditional culture, an exhibition-bazaar called "Street of Crafts" and others.
