On Saturday, 24 August, President Rumen Radev is to take part in the official celebrations on the occasion of the 142nd anniversary of the Shipka epopee from the 1877-1878 Russo-Turkish war.

The battle at the Shipka pass in the Balkan range in the summer of 1877 was crucial to the course of the war that led up to the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman domination in 1878.

At 12 noon on Shipka peak the Bulgarian President and Commander-in-Chief of the Bulgarian armed forces will review the guard of honour, after which a memorial church service will be held.

At 1 PM the Shipka battle will be reenacted.
