Transplant patients and patients in need of lung transplants came out to protest this morning in front of the Ministry of Health building. The protest is organized by the Pulmonary Hypertension Association.
They are demanding that the authorities address the problem of there having been no lung transplants in the country for two years, as well as a national donor programme that works.
Todor Mangurov, chair of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association said for the Bulgarian National Radio that many of the people in need of organ transplants are forced emigrate from Bulgaria to other EU countries so that they can receive the treatment they need. At the moment there are 19 patients on the lung transplant waiting list. Minister of Health Kiril Ananievmet met with the protesters and assumed the commitment to have the problems of the people on the lung transplant waiting list resolved promptly.
