Minister Krasimir Karakachanov: Russia is not the only country carrying out intelligence activities in Bulgaria

The Bulgarian counterintelligence is following all attempts of foreign factors, whether they are states or other entities, which are trying to interfere in this country’s internal policy. This is what Bulgaria’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense Krasimir Karakachanov said on occasion of the so-called espionage scandal when the Chairman of the Russophiles Movement in Bulgaria Nikolay Malinov was charged with espionage in favor of Russia. Traditionally, Russia, which is active in the entire Balkan region due to the tension in the Black Sea, the Ukrainian crisis, the annexation of Crimea, etc, is expected to carry out intelligence activity in Bulgaria. However, there are other countries which carry out intelligence activities in this country as well, including allies and even countries which are expecting Sofia’s support for their NATO and EU accession, Minister Karakachanov added.
