Bulgarian boxer dies after a fight in Albania under assumed name

Young Bulgarian boxer Boris Stanchov died at the end of last week after a boxing match in Shkodër, Albania.

Immediately after the incidents it was reported that the name of the boxer was Isus Velichkov, but it was later revealed to be Boris Stanchov. Stanchov, whose boxing licence has been revoked, is Isus Velichkov ‘s second cousin. This is the reason why he took part in six boxing matches under an assumed name.

“As far as I know he was being paid to lose,” Velichkov commented in a TV interview. The reasons and circumstances of how the Bulgarian Professional Boxing Union and the official bodies were misled are being looked into.
