Spectrum Vocal Band presents debut album

Spectrum Vocal Band – talented, inspired young singers - appeared on the Bulgarian music scene about eight years ago. And in the time since then they have never swerved away from their professionalism or their aesthetic outlook, whatever the hardships or the changes they have been through. The vocal mastery of Spectrum is well known to audiences in this country from their many concerts and performances at festivals. Through the years the band has worked with famous performers and composers like kaval player Theodosii Spassov, pop singer Orlin Pavlov, composers Alexander Brazitsov and Lyubomir Denev, the BNR Symphony Orchestra and many others. The current members of the acapella band are Boryana Yordanova (soprano), Vesela Morova (alto) Nasko Kulinsky (tenor), Yanko Yankov (baritone) and Konstantin Beykov (basso).

On 7 November, at Sofia Live Club, they will be presenting their first album called Cross Point.

“Our debut album features 9 songs, 7 of which our own. The music is by the boys in the band,” says Vesela Morova. “They also wrote the lyrics which are very different, some are of the easy-going city kind of lyrics, there are others which send a message to us all to be better people. Two of the songs are cover versions, they have been in our repertoire for a long time so we decided to include them in the album along with the new songs.

The disc is more than a reflection of our career as performing artists. 2-3 years ago the boys started composing music very actively, some of the recordings are from that time. In recent months we have been more active and we made up our minds to finish and release the album. In the summer we did a lot of recording, we included songs we have not yet performed live. You can hear them at the presentation. The style is pop, funk, jazz, a bit of ethno. Thanks to the Bulgarian National Radio, through the years we have had the support of renowned Bulgarian composers, we have worked with the BNR’s music formations. We had the chance to be support band to Manhattan Transfer in Sofia in 2018. We have come a long way and this is, perhaps, the time to release an album, we just had to mature as artists.

We have always been inspired by the Bulgarian acapella groups of the recent past Trayana and Folk Scat. Composer Kiril Todorov, founder and leader of these formations is a friend of ours, he has given us a lot of good advice. We also listen to and like some world bands like The Swingle, Pentatonix, The Manhattan Transfer... We each have our own preferences, and there has been so much activity in acapella music in the world of late. We always try to keep abreast of novelties in this field. At the moment we are focused entirely on the upcoming presentation of the album, we want it to be a special occasion for us and for the audience. Then we are hoping to present it at festivals in this country and abroad. We shall start work on our second album because we have a lot of new ideas.”
