German, Spanish, French, Italian and Greek companies are among the expected concessionaires for the construction of a new Danube-Aegean motorway, said Rumen Markov, manager of Large Infrastructure Projects. Bulgarian companies do not meet the European requirement for having built and operated at least 150 kilometers of highway.

Talks have been held with the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which are interested in financing the project. It has also been presented for discussion in the framework of the new Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). The length of the Danube-Aegean highway, which is part of the Baltic-Aegean transport corridor, is 367 km with 328 km in Bulgaria from Ruse to Makaza. The estimated price is EUR 1.8 billion.
