One of Bulgaria’s greatest and beloved actors Kosta Tsonev passed away Wednesday at the age of 82. In 2011, having until then acted in more than 200 movies, the great actor was distinguished with Bulgaria’s Askeer Lifetime Achievement Award. In his lifetime, he received several Icarus Awards from the Union of Bulgarian Artists. He’s remembered for his astonishing roles as Don Quixote in the TV theatre The Man From La Mancha, Richard III in Shakespeare’s play of the same name and Arpagon in Moliere’s The Miser. He had more than 1000 parts on stage. Kosta Tsonev gained wide recognition with his role in a series about Bulgarian secret agent Emil Boev, who was an analogue of Agent 007 in the Cold War years.
In 2001, he appeared on the political scene as a representative of the National Movement Simeon the Second. As a deputy chair of the Parliamentary Commission for Culture, he worked on the adoption of a film industry law to fund the production of Bulgarian feature films, documentaries and animations.
Kosta Tsonev will be remembered as a brilliant actor, great company and a good and honest man.
