Negotiations over reforms in Greece
Since the beginning of the week a team of the European Union, the European Central Bank, and the International Monetary Fund have been in Athens to check the Greek progress in reforms. The goal is also to reach an agreement for further curbing of the expenses in the state and private sector in case Greece receives a second bailout of 130 billion euro.
Institute of International Finances confirms goal for reaching agreement for restructuring Greek debt
The Institute of International Finance, which represents bondholders, have confirmed in Athens its goal to reach an agreement for restructuring of the Greek debt in order to avoid chaotic bankruptcy of the country. A debt restructuring agreement is a precondition for Greece to receive its next vital transfer from Europe and the IMF.
Macedonian President meets US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Philip Reeker
Macedonian President George Ivanov has met in Skopje with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Philip Reeker to discuss the name dispute with Greece and the coming high-level NATO meeting in Chicago. Washington’s position has remained unchanged and the US support the NATO integration of Macedonia, urging Greece and Macedonia to find an acceptable solution to their argument.
Telekom Srbija signs loan agreement worth 470 million euro
Telekom Srbija has signed a three-year loan agreement worth EUR 470 million. EUR 320 million is intended for the repurchase of 20 percent of Telekom Srbija shares owned by the Greek operator OTE. 19 local and international banks provided the loan. The successful deal shows the trust in the Serbian economy and Telekom Srbije, the company said.
Slovenia and Croatia sign border arbitration deal
Croatia has received a list by the EC of the candidates for chairs and members of the arbitrary court that is to solve the border dispute between Slovenia and Croatia. EU Commissioner for enlargement Stefan Fule welcomed the planed arbitrary process and the agreement reached between Slovenia and Croatia for the members of the arbitrary court.
NATO missile shield goes operational in Turkey
An early warning radar station that is part of NATO's missile defense system in Europe is now operational in Turkey. The station is located in the city of Malatya, about 700 kilometers away from the border with Iran. According to NATO, the risk of rocket attacks from the Middle East and especially Iran has increased.
Turkey and Macedonia with highest economic growth among candidate EU Member States
An analysis of the EC shows that in 2011 Turkey and Macedonia were the countries with the highest economic growth among the EU member candidates. Turkey has marked a 7.5% of economic growth, followed by Macedonia with 3% and Montenegro with 2.7%. Budgets in Macedonia, Croatia, Kosovo, and Serbia were also according to the official plans, the EC pointed out.
